At the recently held 3rd National Postdoctoral Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, the project "Development and Application of Rapid-Permeable, Dry, Fully Biodegradable Nonwoven Fabric Materials" released by Meijiasuang (China) Co. Ltd., a Quanzhou-based enterprise, achieved significant breakthroughs and garnered widespread attention from the industry.The project was led by a research team headed by Dr. Xu Pingfan from the School of Materials Science and Engineering at Fuzhou University, who successfully developed a novel fully biodegradable non-woven fabric material with a 'hydrophilic on one side and hydrophobic on the other' functional feature.
Traditional fully biodegradable materials have long faced the technical bottleneck of 'difficulty in drying after liquid absorption' in the field of hygiene products, which affects user experience and hinders their large-scale application.The research team led by Dr. Xu Fenping has achieved a breakthrough in unidirectional moisture wicking capability of materials by innovating material structures and coating processes, while maintaining complete biodegradability.The material can rapidly absorb liquid and penetrate inward on one side, while keeping dry and fresh on the other. Its liquid conductivity rate has approached the standard of conventional non-degradable non-woven fabrics widely used in the market, achieving a significant balance between performance and environmental protection.
This technological breakthrough not only enhances the performance of degradable materials, but also provides a viable material alternative to address the 'white pollution' in the sanitary products industry.Meijia Shuang (China) and the team from Fuzhou University have reached a deep cooperation intention. Both parties plan to jointly promote the construction of an industrial production line for this material in 2026, achieving the leap from laboratory to large-scale production.
As a key national base for sanitary products, Quanzhou has a concentrated production capacity, particularly in areas such as diapers and sanitary napkins.The implementation and promotion of this project are expected to help local industries build a more complete eco-friendly supply chain, drive green product upgrades, and achieve a win-win situation between economic and ecological benefits. It also provides a new practical approach for the industrialization of environmental protection materials and the sustainable development of the sanitary products industry in China.
